acquisition and stewardship of Conservancy Preserves, River access
sites and trail corridors, technical and operational expenses, clean-up
and restoration projects, and more!
Much of the Lackawanna River was once heavily polluted in large part due to coal and iron mining operations during the 1800s up until the 1960s. The Lackawanna River Conservation Association (LRCA) has been instrumental in the improvement that has been made in and along the River over the last few decades. Now, we have the pleasure of taking a stroll on a beautiful trail along the River, fishing and paddling in the River, and seeing clean water and busy wildlife!
The LRCA’s land trust affiliate, the Lackawanna Valley Conservancy (LVC), works to acquire and preserve properties along the River and in the Watershed to further aid in the conservation and restoration of our once degraded environment. The LVC works with property owners, municipalities, and other agencies to acquire properties.
